A souvenir is according to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary a thing that you buy or keep to remind yourself of a place, an occasion or a holiday/vacation; something you bring back for other people when you have been on holiday or vacation.
According to Wikipedia, A Souvenir (French origin) is a memento, object, Keepsake and token of remembrance, a person acquires for the memories the owner associates with it. It can be any object that can be collected or purchased and transported home by the traveler as a memento/memory of a visit.
While there is no set minimum or maximum cost that one is required to adhere to when purchasing a souvenir, etiquette would suggest to keep it within a monetary amount that the receiver would not feel uncomfortable with when presented with the souvenir. The object itself may have intrinsic value, or be a symbol of an experience. Without the owners input, the symbolic meaning is invisible and cannot be articulated.

Here, we will concentrate on corporate clients and social events souvenir. Like we all know, clients are integral part of every business as their relationship keep the business/company grow. This relationship can be further enhanced by outstanding customer service, great products and underestimated technique of gifts. On an average, 52% of customer found new businesses due to bad customer services. When polled, their reason(s) for switching service provider was lack of being appreciated, hence they would do their business elsewhere. This shows the important role played by souvenir as a form of CSR (corporate social responsibility).

The question then boils down to “what gifts do we then give to our customers”? This is a simple but difficult question many businesses are faced with from time to time due to their cash constraints. So we have come up with the list of not just appealing but also cost effective items that majority of our customer will be happy about. We have group them into two (2); A. Social Event Souvenir and B. Corporate Event Souvenir.

Social events includes anniversary events and other important celebrations e.g. Birthdays, Wedding parties, House-warming, Car-warming, Dinner/Gala nights, Recognition awards/Dinner or even sport events. Like in most African settings, Nigeria especially, when you purchase an Aso-Ebi or you just attend an occasion, souvenir are usually given as a show of appreciation. It’s usually, a great way to thank your guest for honouring your invitation and leave them with a reminder of your special day for years to come. So at events such as this, souvenirs are often given a very high priority especially in modern day African society. Examples of souvenirs usually given includes; writing pads, large basin/bowls, hand fan, glass cups, flag pens, note books, calendars, kitchen napkins, serviette packs, cooking spoons and knives, make-up porches, and soon.

Corporate events are events or gathering sponsored by business partners, clients and or prospective clients e.g. Seminars and Conferences, Tradeshow, Golf events, Team building events, company or organization milestones etc. Souvenirs usually given at such events or occasion includes; notepads, customized mobile phones, wall clocks, flag pens, customized mugs, calendars, customized wine bottles stoppers, keyholders, etc.
